Faulty Appliances

Most of us take the appliances in our home for granted. We buy them and demand they work for us day in and day out. Over time and without proper care and maintenance, they fall into disrepair and are susceptible to breakdown. Water damage caused by our appliances—washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator ice-maker, or hot water heater—require fast action so it does not get worse over time.

If you find water in your kitchen or basement because of a faulty appliance, call the experts at GET RESTORATION EXPERTS immediately. Our professionals will be onsite in 60 minutes or less to determine the aparment water problem, clean up the water damage, and restore your home to its pre-damage condition. We are local so call our customer service representatives who are available to take your emergency call at (757) 434-6263 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Because we care about our customers and getting the job done right, we at GET RESTORATION EXPERTS require our technicians to obtain certification from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. The IICRC provides the standards for the cleaning, inspection, and restoration industries. And, because we are licensed, bonded, and insured, you can trust us to be reliable and thorough in our work.

Water Damage from Faulty Appliances

faulty appliancesReports indicate that homeowners submit more insurance claims for water damage to their property than for damage or loss due to storms, fire, or theft. Why is that? Water damage goes beyond the visible water present in the area where the appliance is located. Water pools and sits under or behind the appliance and can cause damage long before you see it. Water seeps through floors and ceilings, and into walls and cabinets, causing extensive structural damage. And, when not properly cleaned and thoroughly dried, the residual moisture and dampness can lead to an infestation from mold, which presents a potential health hazard to you and your family. Other causes of water damage from faulty appliances include:

  • Deteriorated water supply lines to the washing machine – Rubber hoses that must withstand water pressure during wash cycles are most susceptible to failure
  • Worn or deteriorated drainage hoses for the dishwasher can fail outright or leak water into cabinets and floors unnoticed
  • A build-up of sediment in the bottom of a water heater can lead to a rupture or leak
  • The rubber hose or copper pipe to your refrigerator’s automatic ice-maker line can leak if not properly installed or has a kink in it
  • Condensation buildup and other issues with an air conditioning/HVAC unit

If you know or suspect you may have water damage in your home due to a faulty appliance, GET RESTORATION EXPERTS can help. Even if you have cleaned up the water in the immediate area, we put our entire safe and effective process to work to ensure the full extent of the water damage is taken care of properly and thoroughly.

Our Proven Water Damage Cleanup Process

  1. Once onsite, we assess the damage and evaluate the entire area. We take precautions by turning off electrical power and shutting off the main water valve to stop the leaking of any additional water into your home.
  2. We identify the type of water that has leaked into or flooded your home. Not all water types are the same. For example, water from an overflowing washing machine is not the same as the water from a leaky water line to your refrigerator. One contains more contaminants than the other, and poses more of a health threat if not removed immediately.
  3. We classify the water damage according to the amount of water present and how far the damage extends. Is the entire basement flooded from a broken washing machine? Is water seeping down through the floor above from an overflowing dishwasher?
  4. We use state-of-the-art truck-mounted equipment as well as submersible pumps that remove standing water safely and efficiently. Via water removal, we can minimize the damage to your home and will also benefit by having a shorter dry time.
  5. Once the standing water is removed, we use heavy duty air movers, fans, and heat panels to dry the affected area as quickly as possible. Our specialized moisture-detection equipment is placed in hidden areas such as behind walls and inside cabinets where residual dampness can lead to structural damage or mold.
  6. We clean the entire affected area using EPA-approved products that are safe for your home and family. We also decontaminate, sanitize, and deodorize the area. If needed, we clean the HVAC system to eliminate mold spores and other contaminants.
  7. Any belongings in the affected area that have sustained water damage will be cleaned and restored to the best of our ability. Our goal is to restore your items and furnishings to their pre-damage condition, and either perform or coordinate structural renovations if necessary.

We will supply photos and other relevant documentation that may be needed to support an insurance claim, and even facilitate that process on your behalf. If you don’ t need your belongings any longer, we can ask for appliance removal.
